A day to celebrate, remember & cherish the moment.

If you are a florist and stay tuned to social media, you know that we celebrate Mothers Day on different Sundays. But did you know that in the UK it was March 15. In Egypt they celebrated on March 21, and that is a celebration of spring and maternal love. In Sweden, where my mom lives it is always celebrated on the last Sunday in May, so May 31st. Here in the US, and many other countries we celebrate the second Sunday in May, so May 10th.

I think we need to be thoughtful around these holidays, like Mothers or Fathers Day. Think about the ones near you who might not have their mom & dad around anymore, who lost them or who has a complicated relationship. The one’s who really would love to be a mother but can’t. I think flowers is such great gift, because you can give them to anyone you want to cheer up. Maybe it’s your neighbor who is a great Dog Mom. Or the grandmother down the road who is helping raising her grandkids. Or it’s your stepmother, who took you under her wings when you needed a mother most. A teacher who made you feel safe in school. Maybe it’s your daughter who dreams about becoming a mother one day. They all deserve some flowers on Mothers Day, or any day. Decorate her grave with flowers and tell her how much she is missed. Be gentle in your talk about celebrating. Cherish the time you have with your mother- while you can. Don’t take time for granted. A phone call, a hug. A letter or a lunch together.

I will see if anyone finds my studio Mothers Day weekend. If you see my flag up- the studio is open!
